International Music and Dance Festival

Summer 2022

The New Rochelle Public Library, New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District and the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library are delighted to bring back the renowned International Music and Dance Festival to downtown New Rochelle this summer. Each Tuesday evening, July 12 – August 16, join us at 7:00 pm for a live performance in the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library. 

Performances are appropriate for all ages, so bring your family, friends, or just yourself, and join us for a night of vibrant international entertainment. 


Redhawk Native American Dance
Tuesday, July 12, 2022 

Experience an explosion of color and sound in this entertaining and educational performance by a group of Indigenous artists, performance artists and musicians. Performers will share their traditions while breaking stereotypes and fostering a better understanding of Native American history and traditions today.

Bokandeye African Dance
Tuesday, July 19, 2022

Children and adults will be thrilled and enlightened by the rich and colorful history of West Africa through dance, rhythm, song and theater. A collage of traditional rhythms and dances from the Senegambia Region of West Africa will be brilliantly staged and choreographed to tell the stories and folklore of the ancient African Villages

Nai Ni Chinese Dance

An evening of multicultural, interactive dance with dazzling costumes and fantastic props. The dancers bring the audience on a journey to explore one of the most ancient cultures in the world. Narrated by the artists, the audience learns the history, geography and the basic practice of traditional dance. 

Selected audience members will be invited on stage to learn how to dance with silk ribbons. This program is a great way for children and their families to become excited about Chinese culture and gain a better appreciation of the value their Asian friends and neighbors bring to the community.

Irish Dance Company

Join us for a unique blend of traditional and modern Irish dance featuring complex rhythms, intricate formations and impressive aerial movement. Paired with music from some of the greatest modern Irish bands, this youth performance troupe of all ages and levels is sure to bring excitement and inspiration to the entire family.

Aszmara Middle Eastern Dance

Enjoy an evening of Middle Eastern and Arabic dance performed in gorgeous costumes, by world-renowned artist Aszmara. Accompanied by folkloric music by Armenian musicians Robert Boghosian on oud, Souren Baronian on clarinet, kaval & dooduk and Mal Stein on dumbek.

Calpulli Mexican Dance
Tuesday, August 16, 2022

Members of the acclaimed Calpulli Mexican Dance Company will be joined by students of the library’s Summer Mexican Dance workshop. In colorful costumes, the dancers will celebrate the rich, regional dance traditions of Mexico’s diverse cultural history.
