MONDAYS:


Baby Rhyme Time
,

A joyful blend of books, lap songs, fingerplays and props for babies and their caregivers. Playtime with toys follows afterwards. Ages 0 to 24 mos. (Children’s Room)

Chess for Kids, 4:30 – 5:30 pm
February 6 – April 24, 2023 (No classes 2/20, 4/3)
Did you know Chess can improve spatial skills, memory, creativity, and concentration in children? Join us for chess instruction with Premier Chess. All skill levels are welcome. Space may be limited. First come, first served. Ages 6 to 12 yrs. (Meeting Room)

Lets Go Legos,
4:30 – 530 pm
May 1 – June 5 (No class 5/29)
It’s a free-build block party with the ever-popular Legos! Larger DUPLO building blocks will also be provided for smaller children. Ages 2 – 12 years. (Children’s Room)

Show Your PRIDE Art Workshop, 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Monday, June 12 
Celebrate PRIDE month by creating a colorful rainbow craft to display or wear!  Ages 6 and up (Children’s Garden)

 

TUESDAYS:
Baby Fingers: Stories, Songs & Signs, 11:30 am -12:00 pm
January 24 – April 25, 2023
Bring books to life through songs and American Sign Language. Learn the sign language ABCs and so much more through your favorite storybooks. Ages 0 to 5 yrs. (Children’s Room)

Building a Love of Reading, 4:15 – 5:00 pm
February 14, 21 & 28, 2023
Please welcome back Kim Block as she conducts special workshops where she will give strategies on how to engage your child as you read together. “Building a Love of Reading” will be filled with creative activities and useful tips to promote early literacy and give caregivers a whole new way to share books with their child.

For parents/caregivers of children Pre-K to 2nd grade. Children are welcome to attend with their adult. (Children’s Room)

Sensory Storytime, 11:00 – 11:30 am 
May 2 – June 6
Sensory Storytimes are more interactive and provide built-in time for sensory play, including freedom of movement with more visual aids, gentle action, and sensory experiences. These storytimes are also smaller, reducing the group size and noise level for those with sound sensitivity. This program is inclusive, with interactive opportunities, more playtime, and flexible, joy-filled appreciation of children of all abilities.

This program is designed for up to 12 children and space is limited. A ticket is required to attend. Please pick up a storytime ticket in the Children’s Room the morning of the program. Ages 2 to 5 yrs. (Children’s Room)

Tween Club, 4:30 – 5:30 pm
January 17 – June 27, 2023 (No classes 2/14, 2/21, 3/14, 4/4, 4/11, 5/9, 6/13)  
Come hang out with old friends and new to play board games or color! Ages 9 to 12 yrs. (Children’s Room)

Tween Book Discussion, 4:30 – 5:30 pm
January 10, February 14, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, 2023 
Join us for snacks, an activity, and to chat about this month’s book discussion pick! Registration required. Ages 9 to 12 yrs. (Children’s Room)

Registration for each discussion begins four weeks before each discussion date. The first eight registrants will be given a free copy of the book! Register by emailing nrplkids@wlsmail.org, calling 914-813-3716, or ask at the Desk in the Children’s Room. When the books are available, we will email to arrange pickup; please list an email address when registering. 

WEDNESDAYS:

Bilingual Babies, 11:00 – 11:45 am

Songs, rhymes and fingerplays both in English and Spanish. For those who want their child to develop Spanish language skills at the youngest age level. Playtime with toys follows afterwards. Ages 0 to 24 mos. (Children’s Room)

Family Arts & Crafts, 4:30 – 5:30 pm 
January 25 – April 26, 2023 (No classes 2/22, 4/5)
Get your art on! Kids and their caregivers will be creating projects using a variety of materials, finding inspiration anywhere and everywhere! All materials provided. Dress for a mess!!! Ages 5 to 12 yrs. (Meeting Room)

Building a Love of Reading

Please join former Barnard School Pre-K teacher Kim Block as she leads a fun, interactive way for caregivers to engage their children in learning to LOVE reading! She’ll use helpful tips, crafts and even artful yoga poses in order to build confidence and make literacy connections for beginning readers.

For parents/caregivers of children Pre-K to 2nd grade. Children are welcome to attend with their adult. (Children’s Room)

Wiggle & Giggle with Dawny Dew, 11:15 – 11:45 am

Sing and dance along with Dawny and her puppet friends with music and fun galore! Ages 0 to 5 yrs. (Children’s Room)

Let’s Groove Music Class!, 11:00 – 11:45 am
January 26; February 9 & 16; March 2, 9 & 23; April 6, 13 & 20, May 18, 2023 
Join Lisa from Let’s Groove Children’s Entertainment and her guitar for a fun-filled music and movement class! We will sing and dance, while having fun with shakers, scarves, animal puppets, a parachute, and more! Ages 0 to 5 yrs. (Children’s Room)


STEAM Along with Toddlers!, 11:00 – 11:30 am

You and your child will explore the concepts of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math – with these fun and open-ended activities designed for the smallest of hands. Prepare to get messy!  Ages 2 to 3 yrs. (Meeting Room?)

Preschool Fun & Fitness, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Children and their caregivers are inspired to “Get Moving” in this fun-filled hour of movement, games and healthy eating and lifestyle tips, conducted by the health & fitness team from the Montefiore New Rochelle Woman, Infant and Children (WIC) Program.. Ages 2 to 4 yrs. (Meeting Room)

Open Playtime, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
May 11 & 25; June 1

Play and socialize with other kids and their caregivers featuring special toys and activities. Ages 0 to 5 yrs. (Children’s Room)


Celebrating Juneteenth: “History Out Loud with Color” Art Workshop,
4:00 – 5:30 pm
June 8
Be inspired by the sights and sounds of jubilation as you create a paper collage in celebration of Juneteenth. Participants’ work will be photographed and included in a digital quilt, reminiscent of the beautiful story quilts African American women created to record ancestral history and family memories. These quilts were also often embedded with codes to lead others to freedom along the Underground Railroad. All ages (Meeting Room)


FRIDAYS:

Toddler Time

Toddlers with their parents and caregivers will build literacy, motor and social skills through stories, songs and movement. Ages 18 mos. to 3 yrs. (Children’s Room)

SATURDAYS:

Yoga Kids, 10:00 – 10:30 am
January 28, February 4, 11, 18 & 25, March 4, 11 & 18, 2023
Taught by Budding Buddha instructors, children learn calmness and mindfulness while having fun practicing yoga. Ages 3 to 8 yrs. (Children’s Room)

 


Capoeira for Kids
March 25; April 1, 15, 22 & 29; May 6 & 13, 2023
An introduction to the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Disguised as a dance and performed to musical instruments and traditional Brazilian songs, children will learn specific offensive and defensive movements and constantly be in motion because of the basic movement, the ginga. Space may be limited. First come, first served. (Auditorium/Meeting Room)

Ages 3 to 5
, 10:00 – 10:45 am   /   Ages 6 to 11 at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

A culminating performance will take place with both age groups on May 20th at 11:00 – 12:00 (Auditorium)

Block Party!!!, 2:00 – 3:00 pm

Get your build on!!! Family fun for everyone as a wide variety of blocks are provided to create limitless structures. Ages 2 to 12 yrs. (Children’s Room)

A delicious afternoon of FREE food-tastic fun! Activities include: 

  • Meet & Greet with the Very Hungry Caterpillar!
  • Foodie Faces authors Bill & Claire Wurtzel with music performance!
  • Cookie Decorating!

“All Together Now” Summer Reading Kickoff Party, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday, June 24, 2023Kick off the summer reading challenge, “All Together Now”, with a fun-filled morning featuring bubbles, book giveaways, crafts & Elephant & Piggie meet & greet! (Ruby Dee Park at Library Green)
