Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library
The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, which was founded in 1978
as a non-profit organization, provides a substantial five figure budget annually for the library soley  through the sale of used books and membership dues. The money raised supports the library's children's
and adult public programs.

The Friends also purchase audio and video tapes, large print paperbacks,
and needed equipment and improvements for the library.
More than 50 Friends volunteers serve in the library as cashiers in the Friends Book Store,  at book sales, and in other capacities for the library
on a regular basis. A newsletter with all of the library's activities is mailed
out to members monthly (except July and August  which are combined).

Friends Used Book Store - "The Best Kept Secret in Westchester"
The Friends Book Store at the rear of the first floor Main Reading Room is open Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m., except for holidays. Saturdays during July and August it is closed because the library is closed.  All categories of books are sold at bargain prices. We draw from our warehouse  of  between 35,000
and 50, 000 books.

The Friends also sell used books from racks and bins located in the lobby and from shelves in the cafe. Paperbacks are 25 cents and hardcover books
and children's books are 10 cents each. Payment is made in an honor box in the paperback bin.  You may call for information at (914) 632-7878, ext. 35
