Reliance
on technology for the competitive edge has caused a crisis:
Without free access to modern technology for all, our
community stands in danger of being polarized into the
"information-rich" and the "information-poor".
|
A core value of American democracy is the
commitment to providing opportunity to all who wish to better their
lives -- opportunity made possible through free access to education,
knowledge and information.
The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation
was founded to ensure that opportunity to every man woman and child in
our diverse community.
We raise funds critical to maintaining the high
quality of library services that
New Rochelle must have to remain a
vibrant, stimulating and attractive asset
for students, homeowners,
educators, and businesses.
|
Public funding, in these critical times, cannot keep pace with
the revolution in information technology. Tax dollars barely cover day
to day operating costs.
They do not begin to address urgent,
escalating needs for new kinds of
library services.
The Foundation raises funds essential to
bridging the gap between the
"information rich" and the
information-poor" in our community, and supports initiatives
which improve the appearance and capabilities of
our Library.
No New Rochelle student will be able to compete effectively in
school
in the 21st century without access to computers outside of
school for word processing and research. Entrepreneurs cannot
adequately vie
for business opportunities without access to on-line
databases and the Internet.
The unemployed and the underemployed are
at a severe competitive
disadvantage without computer literacy, skills
and
employment information.
Join the Foundation’s efforts to
guarantee that this gateway to opportunity
will remain open to all the
diverse segments of our community.
