Adult
Collections The New Rochelle Public Library maintains comprehensive book
collection for adults, young adults, and children. The informational
and recreational needs
of the community are met with a book collection
in excess of 260,000 volumes.
In addition to the traditional book
collections, the following special collections
of the Library are
noted:
Local Links on the Web
Located on the 2nd floor, the E. L. Doctorow Local
History Collection collects and preserves old and current
library materials pertaining to the history of New Rochelle, and
those works about Westchester County and New York State that assist
patrons in putting New Rochelle’s own history
in perspective.

The Local Author Collection on the 2nd floor
collects and preserves significant works by authors, illustrators,
and performers who are
identified with the City of New Rochelle
through birth and/or residency.
Large Print Books are located on the 1st floor.
Popular titles of both fiction and non-fiction are part of this
collection. In addition, the Library also has current issues of the
"Reader’s Digest" and "The New York Times" large
print editions.
Foreign Language Books are located on the 2nd
floor. Small collections
of French, German, Italian, and Portuguese
books as well as a larger collection of Spanish language books, both
fiction and non-fiction, are located here. In addition, the Library
also has a Foreign Language Cassette collection on the 3rd
floor for those wishing to learn a foreign language.
Business Collection on the 2nd floor is a reference
collection designed
to help the small business person or job seeker
Law Collection on the 2nd floor is designed to meet
the needs of the lay person seeking information on basic legal matters
at the local and
state level
Parenting Collection on the 3rd floor covers all
aspects of raising a child
from birth through adolescence. It includes
information on home schooling, learning disabilities, discipline, etc.
in both book and video formats.
Books on Tape are available on the 3rd floor for
adults, the 2nd floor for
young adults, and the Children’s
Room for our younger readers.
The 3rd floor collection is
extensive and covers both fiction and non-fiction titles and
includes both unabridged and abridged titles.
CD-ROM’s are available both in the Children’s Room and
on the 3rd floor. Educational games are emphasized for
children, while the 3rd floor
collection includes
instructional and informational CD-rom’s.
Music CD’s are located on the 3rd floor.
Classical, folk, jazz, and popular music are all well represented in
this collection.
Videos are on the 3rd floor. The Library has an
extensive collection of
videos for patrons of all ages. Feature
films in English and foreign languages
as well as instructional and
educational videos are available
for one week loan.
Musical Scores are located on the 3rd floor. This
collection runs the gamut from classical to modern and includes many
Broadway shows and "fake" books.
